[In Your Journal] Using a Clapperboard

Background

This is a picture of a clapperboard. It is a tool used when recording video for later editing. It allows for easy organization of hundreds or thousands of recorded shots.

Directions

Use this website to learn some background information about clapperboards.

Once you have read through it, identify and describe what each of the labels on the class clapperboard means. Also include information about how to fill out each section correctly.

When you are finished show your work to the teacher. If it's correct you will get an opportunity to practice using the clapperboard.

Practice

You are the director for a production called Clapperboard Practice. You are recording take 5 of scene 7 on roll 3. Your best camera is broken so you are recording with Camera B. It is a daytime, interior shot. You will not use a filter. You will not use the clapperboard to sync with other cameras. You will record the audio from this camera.

Read through the paragraph above. It describes an example scene you would shoot. Jot down the information from this paragraph that would be written on the clapperboard.

Have the teacher check it. Once it is checked and correct you can practice using the clapperboard.
